Rep. Joshua Penner invites constituents to June 4 in-person town hall at Rainier School

State Rep. Joshua Penner, R-Orting, invites constituents to a community town hall on Wednesday, June 4, at the Rainier School Chapel in Buckley. The event will run from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to all residents of the 31st District, including guardians and families connected to Rainier School.

The town hall is an opportunity for constituents to hear directly from Penner about the 2025 legislative session, ask questions, and share their thoughts on key issues impacting the region.

WHAT: 31st District in-person town hall
WHEN: Wednesday, June 4, 2025
TIME: 6-7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Rainier School Chapel | 2120 Ryan Rd, Buckley
WHO: Open to all constituents of the 31st District, including Rainier School families and guardians

“This year’s session brought major wins, but it also raised serious concerns about the direction of state government,” said Penner. “I want to give folks a full picture of what happened in Olympia—both the good and the bad—and hear directly from the people I represent.”

During the event, Penner will discuss several key outcomes from the 2025 session. Chief among them is the preservation of Rainier School. A bill that initially aimed to close the facility by 2027 was successfully amended through Penner’s efforts to ensure the school remains open indefinitely. These critical changes mean that residents will be forced out of their homes, and dedicated caregivers will keep their jobs.

Additionally, Penner will cover the growing concerns over tax increases and spending decisions made by the majority party. This year’s $77.9 billion operating budget includes over $12 billion in new and increased taxes, targeting everything from property owners and small businesses to electric vehicle users and digital services. Penner voted against the plan, citing its unsustainable growth and lack of fiscal responsibility.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to connect with the people I represent,” Penner added. “This is your government, and your voice matters. I hope to see you there.”
