Rep. Joshua Penner welcomes Lakeland Hills Elementary Wildcats to state Capitol
The legislative process became a hands-on lesson for students from Lakeland Hills Elementary. Rep. Joshua Penner, R-Orting, met with the visiting Wildcats to discuss state government, community representation, and the duties of a legislator.
The group traveled from Auburn to tour the Capitol campus in Olympia, observe the House of Representatives in action, and ask questions about how laws are created. For Penner, the visit was an opportunity to connect directly with the youngest constituents of the 31st District.
“These visits are a powerful reminder of who we work for,” said Penner. “The students from Lakeland Hills asked insightful questions that show they are already thinking about how to improve our neighborhoods. We must encourage that curiosity and show them that their government is accessible.”
Lakeland Hills Elementary, which serves a student body speaking more than 20 languages, operates under the motto “Possibilities Are Endless.” Penner notes that this spirit was evident throughout their time in Olympia.
“When you see students from such diverse backgrounds engaging with the legislative process, you see the real strength of our district,” Penner added. “They remind us that the possibilities truly are endless when we ensure everyone has a voice in the conversation.”
The tour included stops at the Legislative Building and the Temple of Justice, providing students with a comprehensive overview of the three branches of government.
Penner continues to prioritize educational outreach and encourages schools across the 31st District to use the Capitol as a learning resource.
